Red Sox reliever Joe Kelly has a gift for debate star Ken Bone

Whether or not you watched Sunday night’s presidential debate, you’ve probably heard about the debate’s standout star. No, it’s not one of the candidates. It’s a man named Ken Bone. (And yes, that’s his real name.) He asked a question during the town hall-style debate and became an instant star — not because of his question, but because… well, take a look.

It’s his glasses and brilliant red zip-up sweater that made Ken Bone the folk hero of the debate. (Not to mention that sharp white tie!) And there’s one Boston Red Sox player that really loves this guy.

That’s Joe Kelly, relief pitcher for the Red Sox, declaring that “#KenBoneismyhomie” for all the world to see. And Kelly is doing more than tweeting about him. He’s actually giving Ken Bone a present.

Those tickets are for Monday’s do-or-die elimination game for the Red Sox, which is a pretty extraordinary gift for Kelly to leave for Ken Bone, normal citizen and mild-mannered sweater-wearer. No one knows if Ken Bone is a Red Sox fan, or if he’d be able to get to Boston in time for the game on Monday night. But if he does, he better wear that red sweater. He might blend in with the other Red Sox fans, but how else would anyone know who he is? He’s the sweater guy!
