Recap: Oakland Raiders at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Oakland Raiders survived…Themselves. They pulled out a 30-24 win against the Buccaneers. They set a record for most penalties in a single game in NFL history. Normally you see a loss in such a game, but the Raiders overcame that and found a way to win in overtime. The truth is that the Raiders are talented enough to have won this game convincingly, but again they took their foot off the gas when they took a 17 point lead in the 3rd quarter and allowed the Bucs to hang around with costly penalties. Look for plenty more to be written about this throughout the week.
MVP – Derek Carr
Carr threw for over 513 yards and 4 TDs. Amari Cooper also had a career day with 12 grabs for 173 yards and a TD, but Carr edges him out. Honorable mention has to go to Michael Crabtree who added 8 catches for 108 yards. He didn’t score a TD, but he had clutch catches at key times proving his value to the Raiders once again. Looks like Derek Carr IS a gunslinger after all. Props go to the defense for stepping up when they had to. Khalil Mack was a key player with 2 sacks, 7 tackles and 4 QB pressures which forced overthrows. You know Jameis Winston heard Mack’s footsteps all day.
LVP – Coaching
This coaching staff has to get control of things. This is something that the Raiders have been able to overcome against less talented teams, but it will catch up with them sooner or later. I get the fact that they aren’t actually the ones on the field committing penalties, but as someone quoted Bill Bellichick; “If you aren’t coaching it, you are allowing it to happen.” The lack of discipline, lack of a killer instinct and poor adjustments will eventually spell doom for the Raiders. Talent can only overcome so much. Honorable mention goes to Sebastian Janikowski for two missed FGs that would have iced the game but 50 yarders are no sure thing. It really never should have come down to his kicking in the first place, so he weasels out of this LVP; barely.
Key Stat – 626 yards
Had this been a loss, the recor setting 23 penalties for 200 yards would definitely been the key stat, but since the Raiders overcame that and won the game in OT, we have to look at how they did that. 500 yards passing and 128 rushing is a red letter day for an offense. We are still looking at you, Sebastian Janikowski with your two missed FGs.

Bauce says it all right there. Take heart though; they found a way to win despite themselves.

Yes Ed, you are forgiven! Now lay off the midget porn! Can we forgive all the heart attacks our Raiders gave us today? Does anyone have to replace their television after that gut wrenching performance?
What this Win Means
Well besides the obvious fact that the Raiders are unbeaten on the road and they won a game in which they didn’t have a clean performance, this win keeps them on top of the AFC West for another week and keeps the pressure on the rest of the division to keep winning. Next week’s game against the Denver Broncos has now become even bigger in the race to the playoffs.
