Real-Life "Fault in Our Stars" Husband Dies at 25

From Cosmopolitan

After fighting hard to spend their lives together, real-life Fault in Our Stars couple Dalton and Katie Prager faced a tragic and heartbreaking end on Saturday afternoon.

According to CNN, after a long battle with cystic fibrosis, Dalton Prager died at the age of 25 after being admitted to the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis for pneumonia and a viral infection earlier this month. At the time of his death, his wife, who also has cystic fibrosis, was in hospice in Kentucky due to complications with a lung transplant she received in 2015. She spoke to her husband via FaceTime during his final moments.

"She told him that she loved him," Katie's mother, Debra Donovan, told CNN. "We don't know if he heard her."

Katie and Dalton first met online when they were 18 - and soon found themselves falling in love. Despite doctors warning them that it would be risky for them to meet, the pair decided to take the chance, and have been fighting to be together ever since. They were married in 2011.

"My angel, my best friend, the love of my life, my husband went to be with the Lord our God today," Katie wrote on Facebook. "Dalton fought a long hard battle with Cystic Fibrosis. He was a courageous fighter and 'give up' wasn't in his vocabulary. Thank you for all of your love, prayers, and kind words that you have shown to us over the past few years. God bless each of you."

While the duo was unable to be together in person during Dalton's final moments, they were able to spend their fifth wedding anniversary together last July.

Dalton's funeral will be held on Wednesday, and his family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover any remaining expenses, which can be found here.
