Raiders reinstate LB McClain

The Oakland Raiders reinstated linebacker Rolando McClain to the active roster from the reserve/suspended by club list and promoted cornerback Chimdi Chekwa from the practice squad, the team announced Monday.

Oakland released cornerback Ron Bartell and fullback Owen Schmitt to make room for McClain and Chekwa.

McClain was suspended for two games in late November by coach Dennis Allen for conduct detrimental to the team.

The Raiders offered no specifics on the reason for the suspension other than Allen saying it was a "team-related issue."

At the time of the suspension, McClain posted on Facebook that he expected to be released from the team.

McClain recently had misdemeanor assault and firearms charges against him dropped.

McClain was in Texas for his father's funeral Monday. His role with the team will be discussed with Allen when he returns.

Chekwa is a 2011 fourth-round draft pick.

The Raiders also re-signed safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah to the practice squad.
