PK Mare, P Harris among Panthers' cuts

Place-kicker Olindo Mare was released by the Panthers just one season into a four-year, $12 million deal.

Justin Medlock is the only other kicker on the roster, although Carolina could bring in more competition with veterans such as Josh Brown and Neil Rackers on the free-agent market. Mare, 39, made 22 of 28 (78.6 percent) of his field-goal attempts in 2011, with two of his six misses being blocked.

The Panthers also released veteran punter Nick Harris and will go with rookie sixth-round pick Brad Nortman.

Wide receiver David Gettis will miss at least the first six weeks of the season, having been placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list as he continues to recover from knee surgery.
