Pedroia rejoins Red Sox lineup

The Boston Red Sox activated second baseman Dustin Pedroia from the 15-day disabled list prior to Thursday's game against the White Sox.

Pedroia hasn't played since July 3 because of a strained right thumb, but he was in the starting lineup on Thursday, batting third in the order.

Pedroia is hitting .266 with six home runs and 33 RBIs in 74 games this season.

To make room on the roster, infielder Mauro Gomez was sent down to Triple-A Pawtucket.
