Padres bring up catcher Grandal, designate RHP Suppan for assignment

The San Diego Padres recalled catcher Yasmani Grandal from Class AAA Tucson and designated right-handed pitcher Jeff Suppan for assignment, the club announced Friday.

Grandal, 23, has hit .317 with four home runs and 23 RBI in 34 games for Tucson this year.

Suppan, 37, went 2-3 with a 5.28 ERA over six starts for the Padres this year. The right-hander also made two starts for Tucson before joining San Diego this season.
