Oilers' Hall surpasses Gretzky record

Left winger Taylor Hall broke an Edmonton Oilers record set by Wayne Gretzky by scoring two goals eight seconds apart in a game against the New York Islanders on Thursday night.

Hall, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 draft, topped Gretzky's record of two goals in nine seconds on Feb. 18, 1981, against the St. Louis Blues.

The 20-year-old Hall scored the first goal at 15:52 of the first period on a slap shot past Islanders goaltender Evgeni Nabokov. The second came at 16:00 on an assist from Jordan Eberle.

The goals were the second and third of the season for Hall.
