NHL Three Stars: Rask blanks Avalanche; Raanta shuts down Oilers

No. 1 Star: Tuukka Rask, Boston Bruins

Rask turned aside all 20 Colorado Avalanche shots on goal to give the Bruins a 2-0 victory on the road. Rask has a 1.54 goal-against average and .945 save percentage in 11 games played this year and became the second goaltender in Bruins history to win 10 of his first 11 appearances in a season. The shutout was his third on the year.

No. 2 Star: Antti Raanta, New York Rangers

The New York backup stopped 38 of 39 shots on goal in his team’s 3-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers. With the victory, Raanta improved to 4-0-0 on the season. The Rangers have won seven of their last eight and are 2-0 on their four-game road trip. This marks just the second time in New York’s 90-year history that they have won 12 of their first 16 games to start a season; the other instance came in 2015-16 when they began 12-2-2.

No. 3 Star: Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago captain notched two assists in a 3-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens. In his last nine games, Toews has put up 10 points and the Blackhawks have won eight of those contests. Chicago currently leads the Central Division with an 11-3-2 record and 24 points.

Honorable Mention: Chicago forward Patrick Kane scored the game-winner in his team’s victory over Montreal. It was the 46th game-winner of his career, which moved him past Bobby Hull and tied him with Denis Savard for fourth-most on the Hawks’ all-time list … Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa scored a goal … Montreal defenseman Shea Weber scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season … Habs forwards Alex Radulov and Alex Galchenyuk each notched their 11th assists of the season … Bruins forward David Krejci scored a goal and added an assist … Boston forward Dominic Moore scored a goal … Colorado goaltender Semyon Varlamov stopped 44 of 45 shots on goal … Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter scored his fourth goal of the season in a 2-1 overtime win over the Ottawa Senators … Wild defenseman Matt Dumba scored the game-winner … Ottawa’s Kyle Turris scored his seventh goal of the season … Minnesota goaltender Darcy Kuemper stopped 35 of 36 shots on goal in the win while Ottawa’s Craig Anderson stopped 40 of 42 shots on goal in the loss … Vancouver Canucks forward Markus Granlund scored the overtime winner and added an assist in his team’s 5-4 comeback win over the Dallas Stars … Vancouver forwards Bo Horvat and Brandon Sutter each scored a goal and added an assist … Canucks forward Troy Stecher sent the game into overtime with his first career NHL goal … Stars forward Tyler Seguin notched three assists … Dallas forward Patrick Eaves scored two goals … Winnipeg Jets forward Adam Lowry scored a goal and added an assist in a 3-2 shootout win over the Los Angeles Kings … Winnipeg forward Marko Dano scored a goal … Jets defenseman Toby Enstrom notched two assists … Winnipeg forward Mark Scheifele scored the shootout winner …Tanner Pearson scored his team leading sixth goal for the Kings … Los Angeles defenseman Tom Gilbert scored his first goal of the season … New York forward Michael Grabner scored his team leading ninth and 10th goals of the season … New York defenseman Dan Girardi scored a goal … Oilers forward Connor McDavid notched an assist.

Did You Know? Hossa has scored a goal in four consecutive games for the first time since Feb. 8-13, 2015.

Dishonorable Mention: The Avalanche allowed 45 shots on goal … The Oilers have lost three straight games and six of their last eight … Edmonton goaltender Cam Talbot stopped 24 of 27 shots on goal. He has allowed three-or-more goals in his last six starts … With their loss against Winnipeg, the Kings have now been defeated in three straight games three times this season. They lost three in a row three times all last year.
