Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane zipped through the Montreal Canadiens’ defense to score a gorgeous, sprawling goal in a Sunday night game at the United Center.

During the second period, Kane took a pass from Jonathan Toews, deked through Jeff Petry and Max Pacioretty to beat Montreal backup goaltender Al Montoya at the 16:23 mark of the frame to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead. Kane shot the puck as he was being shoved to the ice by Pacioretty.

“I tried to make a play and go around the defenseman,” Kane said. “Kind of got tripped up, and at that point you’re just kind of throwing it at the net and hoping something happens and I got lucky there. It was nice to see it go in.”

Chicago won the game and Kane’s goal proved the game-winner.

“There’s not many guys that can make that play. He’s one of two and (Pavel Datsyuk) is already gone, so heck of a goal,” Montoya said.

Kane, the 2016 Hart Trophy winner, now has 18 points in 16 games. The Blackhawks have won eight of their last nine games and Kane has 10 points during that stretch.

“I think with everything on the line, we’ve gotten better,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “These four or five games were probably the best as far as generating and not having to defend as much.”
