NHL Three Stars: Hutton blanks Penguins, OT heroics

No. 1 Star: Carter Hutton, St. Louis Blues

With the Blues’ goaltending in flux, Hutton made 34 saves in shutting out the Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-0.

No. 2 Star: Jack Eichel, Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres star scored two goals, including a spectacular game-winner, as Buffalo rallied in the third period to defeat the Nashville Predators, 5-4.

No. 3 Star: David Pastrnak, Boston Bruins

The Bruins forward scored his 20th goal of the season in overtime, snapping a 17-game scoring drought, as Boston defeated the Detroit Red Wings, 4-3.

Honorable Mention: The Los Angeles Kings scored three first period goals and never looked back, snapping a four-game winless streak with a 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils. … Thomas Greiss made 21 saves as the New York Islanders moved to 3-0-1 under new coach Doug Weight, defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets, 4-2. … Carey Price made 30 saves while Alex Radulov scored two goals in the Montreal Canadiens’ 5-1 win over the Calgary Flames. … The Washington Capitals’ point streak ended at 14 games thanks to 31 saves by Mike Condon, who shut them out, 3-0. … Patrick Marleau’s third-period goal, No. 498 of his career, completed a third-period rally as the San Jose Sharks defeated the Winnipeg Jets, 4-3. The Sharks tied the game on a Melker Karlsson penalty shot at 9:37 of the third period. Brent Burns scored goal No. 21. … The Tampa Bay Lightning scored four third-period goals, including two from Tyler Johnson, in their 5-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. … The Minnesota Wild got shootout goals from Jason Pominville, Mikko Koivu and Chris Stewart in their 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars.
