NHL Roundup: Injuries mount for Flames
The Calgary Flames' depleted roster lost two more players on Thursday when veteran defenseman Dennis Wideman and rookie forward Sean Monahan were placed on injured reserve.
Wideman will miss six to eight weeks with a fractured hand. Rookie forward Sean Monahan has a hairline fracture in a foot and is listed as week to week.
Wideman, who will have surgery to insert a pin to aid the healing process, leads the Flames in minutes per game (26:15) and has 12 points in 24 games.
Already on injured reserve for the Flames are defenseman Mark Giordano (broken ankle), forward Curtis Glencross (knee) and forward TJ Galiardi (back spasms).
---The Columbus Blue Jackets claimed forward Corey Tropp off waivers from the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.
Tropp has one assist in nine appearances for the Sabres this season. His career totals include three goals, six assists and 20 penalty minutes in 43 NHL games. The 24-year-old Tropp missed most of the 2013 season with a knee injury.
---Minnesota Wild forward Mikael Granlund was placed on injured reserve Thursday and expected to miss a week with an upper-body injury.
Granlund was hurt early in a 3-1 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday night when he was hit high by Phoenix defenseman Connor Murphy on a check. Granlund had just returned to the lineup after missing two games with a lower-body injury.
In 24 games this season, the 21-year-old Granlund has two goals and 10 assists.
To replace Granlund, the Wild recalled forward Jason Zucker from Iowa of the American Hockey League. In 13 games with Iowa, the 21-year-old Zucker has six goals and four assists.
