NHL roundup: Ducks sign Getzlaf to $66 million deal
The Anaheim Ducks signed center Ryan Getzlaf to a contract extension on Friday.
The reported eight-year, $66 million deal is the maximum allowed under the NHL's new collective bargaining agreement. Getzlaf would have become an unrestricted free agent after this season along with right winger Corey Perry.
Ducks general manager Bob Murray said Getzlaf expressed his desire to remain with the franchise for his entire career.
The Ducks are hoping to re-sign Perry before the April 3 trade deadline, If they can't reach an agreement with Perry, they might consider dealing him.
Getzlaf, 28, leads the Ducks in scoring with nine goals and 18 assists in 22 games this season. Perry, 27, ranks second on the team with seven goals and 14 assists.
---Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp is expected to be sideline three to four weeks with a shoulder injury, the team announced.
Sharp was injured Wednesday night in the Blackhawks' 3-2 overtime victory over Colorado. TSN reported that Sharp has an AC shoulder joint separation.
---The Columbus Blue Jackets placed forward Derek Dorsett on season-ending injured reserve with a fractured clavicle.
Dorsett, 26, was injured while going hard to the net during the first period of the Jackets' 2-1 overtime win over Vancouver on Thursday night.
---New York Islanders assistant coach Brent Thompson has been suspended for two games by the league after being assessed a Game Misconduct for inappropriate and abusive comments he directed at the on-ice officials following Thursday's game against the New York Rangers.
---The Philadelphia Flyers sent defenseman Harry Zolnierczyk to its AHL affiliate in Adirondack. Zolnierczyk, 25, is currently serving a suspension for his hit on Ottawa forward Mike Lundin during a March 2 game. He is ineligible for NHL games but is allowed to play in the AHL.
