NHL Roundup: Clowe signs with Devils, Lecavalier signs with Flyers
Free agent forward Ryan Clowe signed a five-year, $24.25 million contract with the New Jersey Devils, the New York Daily News reported Saturday.
The New York Rangers decided not to re-sign Clowe after choosing instead to keep Brad Richards and taking a $6.67 million salary cap hit.
Clowe reportedly wanted to stay with the Rangers but the Rangers only had cap space for either him or Richards, and chose Richards.
The Rangers acquired Clowe from the San Jose Sharks during the season for second and third round draft picks and a conditional 2014 pick. That pick will be a fifth rounder. If the Rangers kept Clowe, it would have been a second-round selection.
Clowe is coming off a disappointing season in which he had two suspected concussions and had just three goals in 12 games. The suspected concussions limited him to only two playoff games.
---The Philadelphia Flyers announced they have signed free agent center Vincent Lecavalier to a multi-year contract.
Lecavalier, 33, spent 14 seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He had 10 goals and 22 assists in 39 games last season.
Lecavalier was the No. 1 overall pick by the Lightning in the 1998 draft. He led the team to the 2004 Stanley Cup championship by scoring nine goals and adding seven assists in 23 playoff games that year.
For his career, Lecavalier has 383 goals and 491 assists in 1037 games.
---The Vancouver Canucks announced they signed center Mike Santorelli to a contract.
Santorelli, 27, split last season between the Winnipeg Jets, Florida Panthers, San Antonio Rampage and Tingsryds AIF. He had two goals and two assists combined in 34 NHL games last season with the Jets and Panthers.
Over 208 career NHL games, Santorelli has 33 goals, 26 assists and 50 penalty minutes.
---The Edmonton Oilers agreed to terms with goaltender Richard Bachman on a one-year deal, the team announced.
Bachman, 25, went 6-5-0 with a 3.25 goals-against average and an .885 save percentage in 13 games for the Dallas Stars last season. He also went 5-1-0 with a 2.31 GAA and .920 save percentage in six games for the Texas Stars of the AHL.
He is 14-10-1 with a 2.94 goals-against average and .901 save percentage in 32 career NHL games.
