NHL-Highlights from Saturday's NHL games

Dec 31 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of National Hockey League games on Saturday: Blue Jackets 4, Wild 2 Cam Atkinson scored twice and Sergei Bobrovsky made 29 saves for the Columbus Blue Jackets, who extended their winning streak to 15 games while snapping Minnesota's run of 12 wins. Defensemen Jack Johnson and Seth Jones also scored for Columbus, who have not lost since Nov. 26 in overtime at Florida. Mikael Granlund and Jason Zucker scored for Minnesota. Brandon Saad added two assists for the Blue Jackets, who are two games away from tying the NHL's longest win streak set by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1993. Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk allowed four goals on 25 shots. Penguins 4, Canadiens 3 (OT) Evgeni Malkin scored on a power play 1:54 into overtime after Conor Sheary tied it in the final minute of regulation as the Pittsburgh Penguins rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. Malkin whistled a slap shot under the crossbar a few seconds after goalie Carey Price stopped Sidney Crosby at point-blank range. The Penguins pulled goalie Marc-Andre Fleury (37 saves) with just over a minute to go to add an extra attacker and they got the tying goal when Justin Schultz's shot deflected off the Canadiens' Max Pacioretty, then off Sheary's body and past Price. Bruins 3, Sabres 1 Frank Vatrano, Patrice Bergeron and former Sabre Tim Schaller scored goals as the Boston Bruins defeated the Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo's Jack Eichel scored with 21.2 seconds left in the second period -- his seventh goal in 15 games with the Sabres this season. Boston's Tuukka Rask stopped 26 shots, while Robin Lehner had 25 saves. Capitals 6, Devils 2 Backup goalie Philipp Grubauer made 21 saves, while Alex Ovechkin, T.J. Oshie and Justin Williams led Washington with a goal and an assist each to record a victory over the New Jersey Devils. Six players scored for the Capitals. Keith Kinkaid finished with 20 saves for the Devils. Lightning 3, Hurricanes 1 The Lightning scored a pair of a power-play goals against the best penalty kill team in the league en route to a 3-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. Brian Boyle, Jonathan Drouin and Alex Killorn scored for Tampa Bay. Nikita Kucherov and Victor Hedman each had a pair of assists and Andrei Vasilevskiy finished with 26 saves. Sebastian Aho scored for the Hurricanes. NY Islanders 6, Jets 2 The New York Islanders got an early start on their New Year's celebration with impressive work at both ends of the ice in a 6-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets. Nikolai Kulemin, captain John Tavares, Shane Prince, Ryan Strome, Anders Lee and Andrew Ladd all scored for the Islanders, while Thomas Greiss stopped 32 shots. Panthers 3, Stars 1 Jaromir Jagr and Vincent Trocheck each had a goal and an assist and James Reimer stopped 34 of 35 shots for the Florida Panthers as they snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-1 win against the Dallas Stars. Jagr's first-period goal was the 756th of his career, third-most in NHL history. Jussi Jokinen also scored for Florida. Dallas got their lone goal from Patrick Eaves. NY Rangers 6, Avalanche 2 Chris Kreider completed his first hat-trick of the season as the New York Rangers beat the Colorado Avalanche. J.T. Miller had two goals and Mats Zuccarello and Derek Stepan had two assists apiece for the Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist had 25 saves to record his 390th career win, which is the most by a European-born goaltender in the NHL. He passed Dominik Hasek for the mark. Blake Comeau and Cody McLeod scored for the Avalanche and Calvin Pickard had 31 saves. Flames 4, Coyotes 2 Michael Frolik had a goal and an assist to lead the Calgary Flames to a 4-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes. Dennis Wideman, Lance Bouma and Mikael Backlund also scored for the Flames, who jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one period. Goaltender Brian Elliott made 27 saves in the Calgary net to record his fourth successive win. Brendan Perlini and Martin Hanzal scored for the Coyotes, who lost their seventh successive game as back-up goalie Louis Domingue finished with 20 saves while making a rare start. Canucks 3, Oilers 2 (SO) Bo Horvat had a pair of assists and added the shootout winner as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Edmonton Oilers. Alexandre Burrows and Sven Baertschi also scored for the Canucks, while Drake Caggiula and Connor McDavid scored for the Oilers. Kings 3, Sharks 2 Tanner Pearson had a goal and an assist and Alec Martinez registered two assists as the Los Angeles Kings defeated the San Jose Sharks. The Kings broke a three-game losing streak as goalie Peter Budaj made 18 saves to post his 16th victory of the season. San Jose had a four-game winning streak snapped. Martin Jones stopped 24 Los Angeles shots, while Brent Burns and Kevin Labanc scored third period goals.
