Jan 3 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Saturday's National Hockey League games: - - - Kings 2, Flyers 1 Left winger Dwight King and defenseman Drew Doughty scored goals and goaltender Jonathan Quick made 29 saves as the Los Angeles Kings beat the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 on Saturday. With its first home triumph over the Flyers in seven years, Los Angeles (25-11-2) won its fifth consecutive game and Philadelphia (15-15-7) lost all three contests on its California trip. - - - Panthers 3, Rangers 0 The Florida Panthers set a franchise record with their eighth straight victory, defeating the New York Rangers 3-0 at BB&T Center. The surprising Panthers (22-12-4) lead the Atlantic Division with 48 points. Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo made 39 saves to earn the shutout. He got the best of Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who made 15 saves. - - - Penguins 5, Islanders 2 Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury won on his return from injury. Fleury, who missed eight games because of a concussion, made 38 saves for his 14th victory of the season. He was facing his backup last year with the Penguins, Islanders goalie Thomas Greiss, who gave up four goals on 26 shots before he was pulled. Sidney Crosby scored twice, and Phil Kessel, Matt Cullen and Patric Hornqvist had one goal each for Pittsburgh, which is on a 4-1-1 run under Mike Sullivan since starting 0-3 after he took over as coach. - - - Predators 2, Hurricanes 1 (OT) Mattias Ekholm scored with 1:51 remaining in overtime to give Nashville the victory against Carolina. The Predators won in an overtime session for the first time in 10 tries this season. They're 3-7 in games extending beyond regulation, the other two wins coming in shootouts. Victor Rask scored for the Hurricanes, who are 4-6 in post-regulation results. - - - Devils 3, Stars 2 (OT) John Moore scored a power-play goal at 1:47 of overtime as New Jersey beat Dallas. Dallas entered the game with the most points (59) and the most goals (136) in the NHL. New Jersey received second period goals from Bobby Farnham and Kyle Palmieri. Patrick Sharp and Colton Scevious scored third-period goals for Dallas. - - - Maple Leafs 4, Blues 1 Peter Holland scored a power-play goal early in the third period to end a tie as Toronto won its second straight and sent St Louis to its second loss in a row. James van Riemsdyk, Nazem Kadri and Michael Grabner also scored for Toronto. - - - Lightning 3, Wild 2 (SO) Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy made 30 saves and stopped all three shots in the shootout to lift Tampa Bay. Ryan Callahan scored in the shootout for the Lightning. Zach Parise, Mikko Koivu and Charlie Coyle failed to score in the bonus format for Minnesota, which got 28 saves from Devan Dubnyk. - - - Blue Jackets 5, Capitals 4 (SO) Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Johansen scored shootout goals and rookie goaltender Anton Forbserg survived in a tough spot to lead Columbus. The Blue Jackets got two goals and an assist from Jack Johnson in regulation, and Brandon Saad also had two goals. - - - Oilers 4, Coyotes 3 (SO) Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the shootout winner and Edmonton brought their four-game losing streak to an end. Matt Hendricks also scored in the shootout for Edmonton and Mikkel Boedker had one for Arizona. - - - Flames 4, Avalanche 0 Goaltender Karri Ramo had 26 saves for his first shutout of the season as the Calgary Flames beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-0. Right winger Josh Jooris had a goal and an assist for the Flames, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Centers Mikael Backlund and Matt Stajan and defenseman Dougie Hamilton also had goals for Calgary (18-18-2). - - - Jets 4, Sharks 1 Getting goals from Drew Stafford, Joel Armia, Mathieu Perreault and Nikolaj Ehlers, the Winnipeg Jets defeated the San Jose Sharks 4-1 to end a six-game road losing streak. Rookie goaltender Connor Hellebuyck made 27 saves for the Jets (18-18-2). Defenseman Brent Burns scored for San Jose (18-17-2). - - - Red Wings 4, Sabres 3 Left winger Tomas Tatar scored with 2:50 remaining to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres. On the game-winner, Tatar cut inside the slot and ripped a hard wrist shot to the blocker side for his 12th goal of the year.
