NFL roundup: Belichick withholds comment on non-call

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Monday's loss to the Carolina Panthers came down to a handful of plays, but he would not elaborate on the controversial game-ending play in the end zone.

"I don't really have any comment to add about the officiating or any of those calls," Belichick said.

At the end of New England's 24-20 defeat, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski and Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly were tangled up in the end zone. A flag was thrown, but referees conferred to determine the underthrow -- which led to a Robert Lester interception 5 yards in front of Gronkowski in the end zone -- eliminated the potential for a pass interference penalty.

In other Patriots news, cornerback Alfonzo Dennard is not expected to play Sunday against the Denver Broncos, multiple media outlets reported. Dennard did not play Monday because of a knee injury.

The Patriots got cornerback Aqib Talib back for Monday's game after he had missed three games with a hip injury. However, he struggled late in the game, apparently aggravating his hip.

Cornerback Kyle Arrington also aggravated a groin injury in the game, and the Patriots are still without safety Steve Gregory due to a broken thumb.

--The Denver Broncos signed veteran safety Michael Huff to their active roster and placed safety Rahim Moore on injured reserve-designated for return, the team announced.

Moore can resume practicing with the team in six weeks (Dec. 31) and would be eligible to play in eight weeks (Jan. 14).

Moore suffered a leg injury Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Huff, 30, was released by the Baltimore Ravens in October. He started just one game after the Ravens signed him in the offseason.

--The New Orleans Saints placed cornerback Jabari Greer on injured reserve, ending his season.

Greer suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in the first half of Sunday's win over the San Francisco 49ers.

The Saints signed cornerback Trevin Wade to fill Greer's place on the roster. Wade played last season with the Cleveland Browns. He was released in August.

--Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin returned to practice and is expected to play Sunday against the New York Giants.

Austin missed three games before last week's bye with a hamstring injury, a chronic issue for the 29-year-old receiver who has just 15 receptions this season. Austin caught 10 passes for 72 yards Week 1 against the Giants.

Dallas linebacker Sean Lee (hamstring) is not likely to play.

--The Indianapolis Colts elevated tight end Justice Cunningham from the practice squad to the 53-man active roster and waived wide receiver Griff Whalen, the team announced.

--Three Pittsburgh Steelers starters should return this week after missing the last game, and another who was injured also could be back against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, coach Mike Tomlin said.

Defensive end Brett Keisel (foot), outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley (calf) and guard Ramon Foster (ankle) missed the game against the Detroit Lions.

Tomlin was also encouraged that wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders could be back as well for the Browns game after Sanders injured his right foot Sunday.

--NFL investigators returned to the Miami Dolphins' practice facility on Tuesday to continue questioning players and staff about the Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin scandal and other workplace issues.

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill said, "I think everybody is going to be interviewed."

In another development, the National Football Post cited sources that said Incognito and at least one other player disparaged the ethnic background of a Dolphins staffer and made inappropriate jokes about the staffer's wife.

A Dolphins spokesman did not immediately respond to a request from the National Football Post for comment.
