NFL, retired players settle player images suit
Commissioner Roger Goodell and Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown announced settlement of a class action lawsuit over the use of retired player images in NFL Films footage and video games.
The NFL unveiled its plan for establishment of the "Common Good Fund" to which $42 million will be provided over an eight-year period.
The fund is intended to be used to support multiple organizations focused on supporting retired players with medical and career transition needs, including housing, psychological and career-focused assistance.
As part of the settlement, the NFL will continue to distribute programming that includes footage of retired players.
However, a licensing agency operated by independent interests will be established to oversee and funnel companies to retirees when licensing, sponsorship and commercial requests arise.
