NFL-National Football League roundup

May 7 (The Sports Xchange) - The Denver Broncos moved up five spots in the first round of the draft to select quarterback Paxton Lynch, who appears not that far away from being game-ready. On draft night, Broncos executive vice president of football operations and general manager John Elway wasn't going to let another team snag his quarterback of the future. Elway said Lynch may just prove himself ready to be an NFL starter this year. "Is that going to happen tomorrow? Probably not, but you never know when it can happen," Elway told KDSP-AM on Friday. "We think he's going to be ready quicker than a lot of people think." The 6-foot-7, 246-pounds Lynch has drawn comparisons from scouts to Marcus Mariota, Cam Newton and Ben Roethlisberger. Elway had brought in veteran quarterback Mark Sanchez, who will serve as a bridge -- and, Elway hopes, a mentor -- for Lynch. - - Miami Dolphins first-round pick Laremy Tunsil, who became the story of draft night after a video of him smoking out of a bong and wearing a gas mask leaked on social media minutes before the start, says he is not worried about outside opinions. Nine days after the draft, Tunsil was smiling and joking following the second day of rookie minicamp on Saturday. "I'm not worried about that, everybody got their own opinions," Tunsil said when asked about his character, according to ESPN.com. "I'm the only one who knows what kind of true character I have." The Dolphins signed the offensive tackle out of Ole Miss to a four-year contract on Friday, including a fifth-year option for the team. Tunsil is slotted to earn $12.5 million with a $7.3 million signing bonus. Hel fell to the Dolphins at No. 13 last week after the video was released via Twitter as the draft began. Tunsil and his representatives said his social media accounts were hacked. - - The Tennessee Titans and All-Pro tight end Delanie Walker agreed on a two-year contract extension. Terms were not disclosed by the team, but ESPN reported the deal is a two-year extension worth $14.7 million, with $8.2 million guaranteed. Walker's contract was initially scheduled to expire after the 2016 season. The Titans reworked the final year and added two more seasons, meaning he is signed through 2018. Walker, a first-time Pro Bowler in 2015, led the Titans and all NFL tight ends last season with 94 catches. He turned the receptions into 1,088 receiving yards and six touchdowns. - - The Cincinnati Bengals signed wide receiver Cody Core, the team's sixth-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Core played four seasons at Ole Miss, making 78 of his 83 receptions and all 10 of his touchdowns in the last two seasons. He had 1,202 of his 1,297 receiving yards in the last two seasons. Core suffered a leg injury and was carted off the field during Friday's rookie minicamp session, but he was likely dealing with cramps. - - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed tight end Dan Vitale, the second of the team's two sixth-round selections in the 2016 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-2, 239-pound Vitale was chosen 197th overall out of Northwestern, where he played in 49 games, catching 135 passes for 1,427 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and also earned consensus second-team All-Big Ten honors as a senior. Vitale led Northwestern in receptions (33), receiving yards (355) and receiving touchdowns (four) last season. (Editing by Steve Keating.)
