Jan 10 (The Sports Xchange) - San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews did not participate in practice on Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's playoff game against the Denver Broncos because of a sprained ankle. Mathews did not play in the second half of last weekend's victory over the Cincinnati Bengals because of the injury and has not practiced at all this week. A source told U-T San Diego's Michael Gelken that "the plan" is for Mathews to play on Sunday. Mathews rushed for 1,255 yards during the 2013 season, and had 61 yards on the ground in his one half of action against the Bengals. Danny Woodhead and Ronnie Brown would be the Chargers primary running backs if Mathews is unable to play. - - - Indianapolis Colts starting wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey was officially ruled out for Saturday's playoff game against the New England Patriots because of a hamstring injury. He sat out all three days of practice this week with the injury, which he suffered in last weekend's victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. - - - Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith participated in Friday's practice on only a limited basis and he was listed as questionable for this weekend's playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers because of a sprained knee. He was able to run just five pass patterns during Friday's walkthrough, as trainers held him out of further participation because of the rain. Smith said there was an "89 percent" chance he will play, according to NFL.com. - - - Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin said on Thursday he thought he could play in this weekend's playoff game against the New Orleans Saints, and the team confirmed that optimism by listing him as probable on their official injury report on Friday. Harvin has played in a just one game this season because of a hip problem, and he has not played at all since catching one pass and returning one kickoff for 58 yards in a Nov. 17 game against Minnesota. - - - Former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak was scheduled to interview for the Houston Texans' offensive line coaching job, the Houston Chronicle reported. - - - Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and wide receiver Calvin Johnson are the most intimidating players in the NFL, according to an ESPN.com survey of 320 players. The survey asked the players, "Who is the most feared player in the NFL?" Suh led all players with 61 votes (19 percent), and Johnson followed with 58 votes (18.1 percent). Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt was third in the polling with 7.7 percent of the vote. - - - The Buffalo Bills announced that punter Brian Moorman signed a contract extension with the team. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. - - - The Miami Dolphins completed interviews with two candidates for its vacant offensive coordinator position. The two candidates so far are Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach Bill Lazor and former Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, Former Offensive Coordinator.
