Representatives for the NFL and the locked-out referees met Friday, although NFLRA counsel Michael Adams cautioned against reading into published reports regarding negotiations. "Reports on the economic gap between the NFL and NFLRA are innacurate," Arnold said in a statement. "Ongoing negotiations with the NFL will be conducted in a confidential and professional manner." On Wednesday, the NFL announced that replacement officials will work the regular-season opener between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys, but NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suggested that regular officials could return in time for that game. The NFL Referees Association was locked out in early June and talks on a new agreement have stalled. Replacements refs have been used during the preseason.
