NFL fines Griffin for clothing violation
Robert Griffin III has bigger things to worry about this week as he attempts to come back from a sprained right knee, but the Washington Redskins quarterback was socked with a $10,000 fine Wednesday by the NFL's clothing police.
According to the Washington Post and CSN Washington, the fine was issued because Griffin wore clothing adorned with the adidas logo during his press conference following the Redskins' 31-28 overtime win against the Baltimore Ravens on Dec. 9. Griffin was hurt in the game, and CSN Washington reported that he wore an adidas sweatsuit and T-shirt rather than his standard suit and tie while speaking with the media.
Griffin has a endorsement agreement with adidas. The NFL has a contract with Nike.
Twice earlier this season, Griffin obscured Nike logos on his warmup outfit before road games, but he apparently avoided getting fined until Wednesday.
Griffin practiced fully Wednesday and said he hopes to be ready to return to the lineup for Sunday's key road game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He sat out last week's win over the Cleveland Browns.
