NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell not considering resigning

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell made it quite clear during a Friday afternoon press conference that he has not though about resigning his post.

"Not at all," Goodell said.

As to why Goodell will not resign, despite making numerous errors in judgment and casting a shadow on the league with some of his decisions, Goodell believes it does not need to be considered because he "acknowledged my mistake" in August.

"Because I acknowledged my mistake August 28," Goodell said. "We're moving in a very important direction by getting experts to say, 'How do we do this better?' We're all, as a society, having difficulty in how to deal with this. The NFL has to take care of its house. That's what my focus is. How do we do this better as the NFL and make sure we keep everything on the table? We're going to make sure we look at every aspect."

As to those who want Goodell out of the NFL, good luck. He doesn't have any intention to resign and won't be resigning barring some overly compelling evidence in the Ray Rice case. As Goodell also noted, he is confident that he possesses the full "support of the owners."

"I believe I have the support of the owners. That has been clear to me," Goodell said. "They obviously expect us to do a better job. As I said to several, I don't like to let down anybody, myself, it starts with myself. I hold myself to the highest possible standards. So when I make a mistake or don't get something right, it bothers me more than anybody. I think the owners have seen that in me.

"We try to always do the right thing. Mistakes happen, and I'm sorry for that, and we're going to get this right."
