NBA Roundup: Mavs' Carlisle fined, Celtics' Oden talks comeback
Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said he was fined by the NBA for comments he made that were critical of officials after Thursday's loss to the Golden State Warriors.
Carlisle did not reveal the amount, saying the league would announce it later on Saturday.
"I spoke to the NBA office and agreed that I should be fined for my comments following the Golden State game," Carlisle said in a text message to ESPN Dallas. "In this league we all have challenging jobs, and the job of the officials is one of the toughest. Those postgame remarks about the officiating were not appropriate, and I accept the fine."
After Dallas lost 100-97 at Golden State, Carlisle said a blocked shot by Warriors center Andrew Bogut on Brandan Wright's shot with six seconds in the game was an "obvious" foul.
"We put ourselves in position," Carlisle said after the game. "I don't know what you want to call it at the end. Unlucky? Whatever you want to call it. Screwed? It happened."
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban tweeted a criticism of the officiating after the play, but it is not clear if he will be fined.
---The Boston Celtics met with Greg Oden on Saturday, according to the Boston Herald.
Oden is attempting to come back next season after knee problems derailed the 7-foot center's career.
"We wanted to talk to Greg to see where he is physically," Celtics executive Danny Ainge said.
Oden was the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2007 by the Portland Trail Blazers, but missed his entire rookie season because of multiple knee surgeries. He played in 82 games before playing his last game on Dec. 5, 2009.
"We're just finding out as much as we can and letting Greg know what we have here," Ainge said. "He's not ready to play now, but he's someone who's very interesting.
The Celtics have lost point guard Rajon Rondo and Jared Sullinger to season-ending injuries in the past week.
Oden has also drawn interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat.
---The Atlanta Hawks announced Saturday that they signed veteran guard Jannero Pargo to a second 10-day contract.
Pargo averaged 5.2 points, 2.6 assists and 1.0 rebounds in 16.0 minutes in five games under his first 10-day contract.
He played in seven games for the Washington Wizards earlier this season, averaging 3.0 points and 2.0 assists in 14.6 minutes. Over his career, which includes 441 career games, Pargo has averaged 6.4 points, 2.0 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 15.4 minutes.
