NBA roundup: Knicks won't match offer for Lin
The New York Knicks reportedly will not match the offer sheet signed by point guard Jeremy Lin from the Houston Rockets.
Lin, a restricted free agent, signed a three-year, $25.1 million deal with Houston. ESPN.com reported a Knicks source said the team would not match the contract because it contains a third year worth $14.8 million that would likely subject them to the NBA's luxury tax.
Lin reportedly would make $5 million next season and $5.225 million during 2013-14 season. The Knicks have until Tuesday to match the Rockets' offer.
The second-year guard from Harvard became a sensation in New York after leading the Knicks to seven consecutive victories last season.
Lin became expendable when the Knicks have acquired point guard Raymond Felton on Saturday in a sign-and-trade deal with the Portland Trail Blazers that will also bring Kurt Thomas to the Knicks and send Dan Gadzuric and Jared Jeffries to the Blazers.
The Knicks also signed point guard Jason Kidd last week, but he said he thought he was coming in to mentor Lin.
Another source told ESPNNewYork that Lin was taken aback by the Felton trade.
"He was very surprised," the source said. "He felt the whole time that the Knicks would just match the offer."

The arrest, first reported by Patch.com of South Hampton, was confirmed by the Southampton Town police in conjunction with a single-car accident involving Kidd.
The authorities said Kidd, 39, was taken to the Southampton Town Justice Court and arraigned on a misdemeanor DWI charge. He released on his own recognizance.
Kidd, 39, signed a three-year, $9.5 million contract on Thursday to play for the Knicks. He has been named to the All-Star team 10 times in his career.

The Raptors signed Fields, 24, to a three-year contract worth nearly $20 million Fields on Wednesday. The Knicks had until Saturday to match it.
The 2010 second-round draft pick from Stanford averaged 8.8 points and 2.6 assists last season.
---The Phoenix Suns submitted the highest bid for free agent forward Luis Scola, earning them the the rights to the 32-year-old forward, NBA.com reported.
Scola had been waived as an amnesty exception by the Rockets.
The Suns had to submit a bid of at least $3.3 million per year for Scola, and commit $10 million over three years.
