Nate McMillan won't return to Team USA

Nate McMillan won't re-join Mike Krzyzewski's USA Basketball coaching staff, the former Portland Trail Blazers coach told Yahoo! Sports. Krzyzewski announced Thursday that he will remain as Team USA's head coach through 2016. McMillan was a member of Krzyzewski's staff as an assistant coach from 2006-12.

"It was a great experience with Coach K," McMillan said. "Jerry Colangelo did a great job bringing the staff together. They're in a great position and I'm excited about their future. They have to continue to build on what they started. It would be good for someone to experience it. I'm grateful for my six and a half years."

McMillan was fired as Blazers coach in 2012. The former NBA player was 478-452 over 12 years as a coach.

He said he won't be interviewing for the Charlotte Bobcats' opening. He has recently interviewed with the Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks.

"I'm waiting to see what happens," McMillan said. "It has to be the right fit."
