Nash out for week with hairline fracture
LOS ANGELES -- Days after starting his first regular season with the Los Angeles Lakers, Steve Nash will miss at least a week because of has a small fracture he sustained in his left leg.
The injury to his tibula, announced by the Lakers on Saturday, was revealed in a MRI exam.
Nash did not play Friday after he bumped knees with Portland Trail Blazers rookie Damian Lillard in the second quarter of the Blazers' 116-106 victory on Wednesday. The Lakers fell to 0-3 after losing to the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday.
The Lakers are off to their worst start since 1978. They play host to the 0-2 Detroit Pistons on Sunday night.
Nash, 38, was acquired in a sign-and-trade deal with the Phoenix Suns last July, giving the Lakers the true point guard they had been seeking to complement Kobe Bryant. Nash signed a three-year, $27 million contract with the Lakers.
In Nash's absence, veteran Steve Blake has taken over at point guard. He had two assists and eight points in 39 minutes against the Clippers.
