Though we are still almost ten months away from the 2017 NFL Draft, it is never too early to begin taking a look towards next season’s crop of NFL rookies. For the Miami Dolphins, this also means trying to project where they will possibly end up in the first round pecking order as well as where the team may need to add to their roster entering the 2017 campaign. For this series, I am projecting the Dolphins record to be between 6-10 and 8-8 with draft position between the late top ten and the mid-teens.

It is also important to remember that these projections are basically educated guesses. With so much time still left till next season’s draft process most the players we cover could rise or fall in the rankings. While many believe that these rankings are sound, nothing is set in stone.

With all of that said, we will be starting off our new series with one of the ACC’s rising junior quarterbacks whose football IQ, elusiveness, and passing ability has been praised by many of his opposing coaches. He will also not have to move very far if he joins the Miami Dolphins as we present to you Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya.

Brad Kaaya — Miami FL. — Quarterback

While not guaranteed to go pro at this point, Brad Kaaya is one of the highest rated underclassman in the nation. Ranked as the 12th best player and the second best quarterback on Mel Kiper Jr’s 2017 Big Board, Kaaya is a potential superstar in the NFL. Add into the fact that he plays for the University of Miami and Kaaya is almost certain to be welcomed by the Dolphins’ faithful.

Asking some ACC coaches that had to go against Miami last season, ESPN got plenty of rave reviews for the 20-year old with one coach even calling Kaaya the “best pure passer in the ACC”. The praise got even greater for the quarterback — and likely some NFL teams — with another coach calling Kaaya a “model NFL quarterback.”

However, though Brad Kaaya is extremely talented he also does have some areas of game that need to be developed. Though some have criticized his arm strength viewing film shows that Kaaya’s arm is plenty strong. More so it really the young quarterback’s decision making and anticipation that seems to be plaguing him on most of his underthrown balls.

As Bleacher Report’s Ryan McCrystal put it, Kaaya’s common mistake under throwing the football “can be easily fixed with more experience.” As Kaaya continue’s to grow and develop both his physical skills and his mental ability, timing his throws to hit a receiver in stride will come. The added experience will also contribute to Kaaya’s building confidence in the pocket.

Though his focus is almost certainly on helping Miami return to the top echelon of college football, many fans’ of teams in the NFL will be focusing their eyes on this young man very soon. Already an extremely talented quarterback it is only a matter of time before Brad Kaaya makes the jump to the NFL; potentially with the Miami Dolphins.
