MLB roundup: Tigers' Fister placed on DL

Detroit Tigers pitcher Doug Fister was officially placed on the disabled list Sunday with an injury to his left side.

The right-hander was injured in his first start of the season, a 10-0 win over the Boston Red Sox. He allowed three hits in 3 2/3 innings, he walked one and struck out three. He left the game with a left costochondral strain.

Right-hander Brayan Villarreal was recalled from Triple-A Toledo to replace Fister.

Fister provided a huge boost to the Tigers last season, when he went 8-1 down the stretch after being acquired from Seattle.

---The San Diego Padres acquired pitcher Brian Tallet from the Pittsbugh Pirates. The lefty worked just 13 1/3 innings combined last season with the Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis, and was claimed off waivers by the Pirates in the winter.

---The Los Angeles Dodgers expect 2011 Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw to be ready for the home opener Tuesday against the Pirates, according to ESPNLosAngeles.com.

Kershaw had the stomach flu, but gutted out three innings in his debut Thursday before being forced to leave the game. He threw his regular bullpen session Saturday.

Kershaw did not allow a run in his debut, but vomited after he left the field.
