Mets' Rice finished for season

The SportsXchange

New York Mets relief pitcher Scott Rice, who leads the National League in appearances with 73, will undergo hernia surgery and will be out the rest of the season, Newsday reported.

Rice, 31, made it to the majors for the first time this season after 14 seasons in the minors.

Rice has been outstanding against left-handed hitters this season, limiting them to a .174 batting average. He has not been as good against right-handed hitters, who hit .362 against him.

Overall, Rice is 4-5 with a 3.71 ERA this year.
