The SportsXchange

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning became the sixth player in NFL history to throw seven touchdown passes in a game, matching the record Thursday in the season opener against the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens.

The record-tying score was a 78-yarder from Manning to Demaryius Thomas in the fourth quarter, giving Denver a 49-27 lead.

It was Manning's second touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas on the night. He also threw two scoring passes to Julius Thomas, two to Wes Welker and one to Andre Caldwell.

The other quarterbacks to throw seven touchdown passes in a game were the Chicago Bears' Sid Luckman in 1943, the Philadelphia Eagles' Adrian Burk in 1954, the Houston Oilers' George Blanda in 1961, the New York Giants' Y.A. Tittle in 1962 and the Minnesota Vikings' Joe Kapp in 1969.
