Has LeSean McCoy become expendable for the Buffalo Bills?
Leading one of the most talented areas of the entire Buffalo Bills roster, LeSean McCoy’s status as one of the NFL’s best running backs has surprisingly tumbled over the last year and a half. Due in part to some injuries which has hampered his numbers, one has to wonder if McCoy has potentially become expendable in Buffalo.

Coming over in a trade from the Philadelphia Eagles last offseason, McCoy arrived in Buffalo to much fan fare and even higher expectations. Suffering a nagging hamstring injury and an MCL sprain late in season, McCoy failed to come anywhere close to expectations last season.
With an amazingly stacked backfield now behind him on the depth chart and an expensive contract on the Buffalo Bills current books, could a change be nearing for Shady. After all, with three players currently behind him on the depth chart all capable of taking a larger role in the offense, can the Buffalo Bills really put up with another subpar — possibly injury filled — season.
Playing in only 12 of the Bills games last season, Shady definetly could have rushed for over 1,000-yards last season with another four games under his belt. His three rushing touchdowns on the other hand could use some improvement. With the other running backs on the roster expected to take a larger workload this season, McCoy may even get less playing time than last season, which is not good for the former star.

Looking at the other players in the Buffalo Bills backfield, the situation for LeSean McCoy becomes even more bleak. Mike Gillislee, Karlos Williams, and newly drafted rookie Jonathan Williams all look to have good amounts of ability in the backfield and will all likely get some game time this season.
In five games with the Bills last season, Gillislee had 267-yards rushing and three touchdowns. Getting eleven games with the Bills, Karlos Williams had a team high seven rushing touchdowns as well as two receiving scores. Add into the mix Jonathan Williams and the Bills have probably the deepest backfields in the entire NFL.
With such talent, I would say that LeSean McCoy is definitely an expendable asset for the Buffalo Bills. Unless Shady has a resurgence this season and finds the numbers that he experienced during his last two seasons with the Eagles, McCoy could find himself on the cutting room floor come next offseason.
