Lakers sign G Marshall

The Los Angeles Lakers, who have been hit by a number of injuries to their backcourt, signed guard Kendall Marshall to a multi-year contract, the team announced Friday.

Marshall, a first-round pick in the 2012 NBA draft, was released by the Washington Wizards on Oct. 28, three days after he was acquired from the Phoenix Suns in a multi-player trade.

He has been playing for the Delaware 87ers of the NBA Development League since Dec. 3. He averaged 19.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 9.6 assists in seven games with the 87ers.

In 48 games with the Suns last season, Marshall averaged 3.0 points and 3.0 assists.

The Lakers need help in the backcourt with Steve Nash, Steve Blake and Kobe Bryant all expected to be sidelined with injuries for at least another month. Bryant is likely to be out six weeks with a broken bone in his knee.
