Joe Mixon reportedly off the Philadelphia Eagles draft board
One of the most talked about players in this draft class, running back Joe Mixon continues to stir up debates daily thanks to his off the field behavior and whether or not NFL teams should be interested in drafting him. The former Oklahoma running back has been under fire ever since a video of him punching a woman in the face surfaced.
Now it seems, this incident was not the first time such an event had happened in the short life of Mixon. NFL general managers and executives are reportedly investigating Mixon’s high school days with a new report now claiming that he also punched a woman before he even arrived on the campus of Oklahoma.

While it is unknown whether or not the Eagles had Mixon off their draft board before or after this claim surfaced is unknown. What is known is the cloud and trouble that Mixon will bring to any team that drafts him. Likely to hold the eyes of the league, media, and fans, Mixon could turn into a major distraction despite the amount of talent that he possesses.
This issue runs even deeper now since the fallout of the Ray Rice incident. Drafting someone who has a history of punching woman would really go against any and all stances that the league has made against both domestic and physical violence. For the Eagles, while such a move is likely to be a short term loss, it will likely be a long term gain based on Mixon’s past.
Possessing some great talent levels, Joe Mixon would have likely been a first round pick had it not been for these off the field issues and character concerns. While someone can be truly sorry after doing something one time, the fact that this issue is now recurring makes me really ponder his apology.
In the long term, removing him from the draft board is probably the best decision. After all, what team wants to be the next to have a “Ray Rice” type incident.
