Jets WR Holmes not expected to play next game

New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes will not play in the team's next game because of a left foot injury, the New York Daily News reported Monday.

Holmes sustained the injury during Sunday's 34-0 loss to the visiting San Francisco 49ers. X-rays were negative but he is scheduled to have an MRI on Monday.

Jets coach Rex Ryan said Monday the team is still gathering information on the injury, despite what the Daily News reported.

The Jets host the Houston Texans on Oct. 8.
