Janikowski injured, Raiders sign Medlock

The Oakland Raiders expect Sebastian Janikowski to recover from a groin injury in time for the regular-season opener, but signed Justin Medlock on Tuesday as insurance.

Medlock is a Bay Area native from Fremont, Calif. and was a fifth-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2007.

Janikowski hasn't been ruled out for Thursday's preseason finale at Seattle.

"He's got basically a sore groin," Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said. "He's a little tight but doesn't seem to be any pull or defect in the muscle or anything like that, so I don't anticipate it being a big deal."

Eddie Carmona connected on a 56-yard field goal after Janikowski was injured while making a tackle on Saturday night.

--LB Miles Burris (knee) was placed on the physically unable to perform list and will miss at least the first six weeks of the season.

--CB Joselio Hanson (groin) and RB Latavius Murray (ankle) were placed on injured reserve.
