Indians sign Kazmir, two others, to minor league deals

The Cleveland Indians announced on Tuesday that they signed free agent pitchers Scott Kazmir, Jerry Gil and Edward Paredes to minor league contracts with non-roster invitations to spring training.

Kazmir, 28, is 66-61 with a 4.17 ERA in 179 starts with the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Angels from 2004-2011. He was an All-Star in 2006 and 2008. In 2007, he was 13-9 with a 3.48 ERA and led the American League in strikeouts with 239.

He had one start for the Los Angeles Angels in April 2011 and spent 2012 in the independent Atlantic League.

Gil, 30, played 30 major league games in 2004 and 2007 as a position player before being converted to pitcher in 2008. He is 23-26 with 22 saves and a 5.63 ERA in 205 games minor league appearances.

Paredes, 26, spent seven minor league seasons in the Seattle Mariners organization from 2005-11.
