Indians call up Diaz, demote McAllister

The Cleveland Indians have recalled infielder Juan Diaz from Class AA Akron and optioned right-handed pitcher Zach McAllister to Class AAA Columbus, the Indians announced Friday.

The switch-hitting Diaz has batted .232 with three home runs and 18 RBIs in 34 games at Akron. He was acquired two years ago in the trade that sent Russell Branyan to the Seattle Mariners.

McAllister was 4-4 with an ERA of 3.96 with the Indians, splitting time as a starter and long reliever.

Also, the team announced right-handed pitcher Josh Tomlin will come off the 15-day disabled list and will start Monday's game against the Kansas City Royals.
