Indians Bourn to require DL stint

Cleveland Indians outfielder Michael Bourn will be placed on the disabled list, manager Terry Francona said before Tuesday's game.

Bourn was injured Sunday when he slid head-first into first base to avoid colliding with White Sox reliever Matt Thornton. But Thornton accidentally stepped on Bourn's finger with his cleat during the play.

Bourn required five stitches in his hand and can't play until those stitches are removed. The Indians initial projection was Bourn could return in 5-7 days.

Bourn, signed to a four-year, $48 million contract as a free agent. He is hitting .333 with seven extra-base hits this season.
