Indians activate Perez, deal McDonald

The Cleveland Indians activated closer Chris Perez from the disabled list, and dealt infielder John McDonald to the Philadelphia Phillies.

To make room for Perez on the active roster, the Indians optioned T.J. House to Triple-A Columbus.

Perez, 27, has been out since May 27 with a strained right shoulder, but returned after making three minor-league rehab appearances. He's 2-1 with six saves in eight chances this season, with a 4.32 ERA.

McDonald will join his third team this season. He began the year with the Pittsburgh Pirates, then went 0-for-7 in eight games with the Indians. Cleveland will receive a player-to-be-named or cash from the Phillies.
