Giants pitcher Gaudin faces lewdness charge
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Chad Gaudin is scheduled to start Friday's game at San Diego despite news that he was arrested and charged with lewdness.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Gaudin was in an emergency room of a local hospital on the morning of Jan. 27 when he was accused of improperly touching a woman on a gurney.
The incident was alleged to have happened around 4:30 a.m. The woman told police that Gaudin approached her and told her she was "gorgeous." She said he then touched her face and breast.
Gaudin's attorney issued a statement after Wednesday's loss to the New York Mets that said the Giants pitcher was "experiencing symptoms believed to be related to acute renal failure due to a condition known as rhabdomyolysis. The symptoms included confusion, dehydration and loss of orientation and/or consciousness.:
Hospital security was called to help detain Gaudin until police arrived, according to the police report via the Review-Journal.
"Gaudin was still yelling and using profanity," when police arrived, the arresting officer wrote in his report.
"I asked Gaudin several times how he ended up at the hospital and each time he told me that he didn't know," the officer wrote. "Gaudin appeared to be intoxicated. He had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, trouble standing still, obeying commands, an odor of alcoholic beverages and couldn't repeat his house number, where he lives, the same way twice in a row."
Gaudin and his wife live in Henderson, Nev.
Gaudin, who has pitched as a starter and in relief, is 2-1 this season with a 2.44 ERA. In his last outing on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers he went seven innings and gave up a run on four hits in a no decision.
