New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul said the defense was not “too worried” about Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.

“I am pretty sure that Cutler is a smart quarterback and once he gets rolling, he is rolling. You can’t let that fool you,” Pierre-Paul said. “I know that their record doesn’t say it, but they are a good team.”

“But we know what we have to do — get to the quarterback, play the run first, can’t forget about the run because they have good running backs back there and that is all we are going to be doing. We are not too worried about Cutler. We have to be, but our job is to play the run first and get to the pass second. But as long as we keep playing good ball, we will be all right.”

The Giants’ defense contained the Bears’ rushing attack and put constant pressure on Cutler. The offense added two touchdowns in the air and more than 100 yards on the ground in a Giants 22-16 victory.

In the beginning, the Bears were firing on all cylinders. They scored on their first three possessions. Cutler hit tight end Zach Miller for a 19-yard touchdown on the game’s first possession. Connor Barth scored on a 40-yard field goal and a short touchdown run by Jeremy Langford gave the Bears a 16-6 lead.

The Giants got on the scoreboard with an 11-play, 78-yard drive that ended with a 2-yard touchdown by Rashad Jennings. Robbie Gould, who spent the first 11 seasons of his career as the Bears’ kicker, added a 46-yard field goal to make the score 16-9 going into the intermission.

The Giants scored on their first two possessions of the second half. Eli Manning hit Will Tye for a 9-yard touchdown and Sterling Shepard on a 15-yard go-ahead touchdown.

The Giants defense had their way with Cutler, sacking him four times and hitting him six times. He threw an interception to Landon Collins late in the fourth quarter that sealed a Giants victory. Jordan Howard was held to 77 yards on 17 carries after consecutive 100-yard games.

Manning went 21-of-36 for 227 yards and two touchdowns, spreading the ball around to seven different receivers. Shepard had five receptions for 50 yards and the touchdown to lead the way. Rashad Jennings had 85 yards on 21 carries and the touchdown.

The Giants are now 7-3, winners of five consecutive games. They have surpassed their win total for each of the last two seasons with six games remaining. Next week, they travel to FirstEnergy Stadium to face the 0-11 Cleveland Browns. Kickoff is at 1:00 PM.
