Free Agency Preview: West

Ryan Knaus surveys the entire free-agent and trade landscape, and examines the fantasy fortunes of LaMarcus Aldridge and DeAndre Jordan

Free agency will dominate the NBA calendar in July and it's time to survey the league to see who might be on the move. All-Star big men LaMarcus Aldridge and Marc Gasol are headed into unrestricted free agency, where they could be joined by LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Goran Dragic and others who hold options for 2015-16.

Draymond Green and Kawhi Leonard lead an impressive crop of restricted free agents, and the fantasy values of guys like Eric Gordon and Wilson Chandler could shift drastically depending upon player and team options. But that’s the tip of the iceberg -- today's column provides a team-by-team overview of key free agents and contract decisions in the Western Conference. Click here to read and/or bookmark my summary of the Eastern Conference.

You can follow me on Twitter @Knaus_RW. That's also where you can find me to let me know any and all of the players I inadvertently left off these lists!

Pertinent quotes from a player or team, relating to offseason decisions, will be provided (and linked to) where appropriate. This is intended as a bookmark page for reference throughout free agency, and as such I'm not speculating as to who might end up where. Also note that I’ve included non-guaranteed deals and early-termination options in the ‘Team or Player Options’ section for the sake of convenience.

In addition to Rotoworld's player-contract pages, I highly recommend the salary resources available at Sham Sports, Basketball-Reference and Basketball Insiders. Now let’s see what’s happening out West.

Dallas Mavericks

Unrestricted Free Agents: Tyson Chandler is the Mavs' key free agent. The front office has "mentioned" a possible sign-and-trade involving Chandler and DeAndre Jordan, though Chandler said his preference is to remain with Dallas.

The Mavericks want nothing to do with FA Rajon Rondo after he butted heads with the team this season, but the Lakers might have some interest and the Kings have been mentioned as "a darkhorse location" for the mercurial PG. Richard Jefferson, J.J. Barea, Charlie Villanueva, Greg Smith and Amare Stoudemire are also unrestricted.

Restricted Free Agents: Bernard James ($1.2 million qualifying offer)

Team or Player Options: Monta Ellis has an $8.7 million player option. He’s expected to opt out and become an unrestricted free agent. Raymond Felton has a $3.9 million player option…he's not going anywhere. Al-Farouq Aminu has a $1.1 million player option but he’s already confirmed that he'll opt out, saying, "It’s always better to stay where you’re at but things happen. But it would be nice [to stay in Dallas]. Dwight Powell's $845k salary is non-guaranteed for 2015-16

Denver Nuggets

Unrestricted Free Agents: Darrell Arthur

Restricted Free Agents: Ian Clark ($1.1 million QO) and Will Barton ($1.2 million QO). Barton said he "definitely would like to come back" to Denver next season.

Team or Player Options: Wilson Chandler’s $7.2 million salary is only $2 million guaranteed. Randy Foye’s $3.1 million salary is fully non-guaranteed. Jameer Nelson has a $2.9 million player option but he reportedly plans to opt out to test his luck in free agency. Jamaal Franklin ($947k) and Erick Green ($845k) both have fully non-guaranteed deals.

Golden State Warriors

Unrestricted Free Agents: Leandro Barbosa

Restricted Free Agents: Draymond Green ($2.7 million QO. "I just kind of feel at home [in Oakland," Green said on June 6. The Warriors are expected to match any offer he gets from another team.) Justin Holiday and Ognjen Kuzmic can both receive $1.1 million qualifying offers if the Warriors want to make them restricted.

Team or Player Options: Brandon Rush ($1.3 million player option) and Marreese Speights ($3.8 million team option). James McAdoo's $845k salary is only guaranteed for $100k.

Houston Rockets

Unrestricted Free Agents: Josh Smith, Corey Brewer and Jason Terry all said that they hope to return with the Rockets in 2015-16.

Smith: “I like the future if we can keep all the pieces together."

Brewer: "I love playing here."

Terry: "Houston right now is the best fit for me."

Restricted Free Agents: Patrick Beverley ($2.7 million QO. "I’m a loyal guy. [Houston's] the only team that took a chance on me," Beverley said in late May. Chandler Parsons is reportedly trying to recruit Bev to the Mavericks but Houston will likely match any reasonable offer he receives. K.J. McDaniels ($1.0 million QO).

Team or Player Options: Kostas Papanikolaou ($4.8 million team option). Pablo Prigioni's $1.7 million salary is partially guaranteed.

L.A. Clippers

Unrestricted Free Agents: DeAndre Jordan (Jordan has reportedly "made it clear ... that he will be extremely interested in coming to Dallas. The Clippers, however, are intent on re-signing him and Doc Rivers said they'll offer Jordan a max contract.) Other unrestricted free agents include Austin Rivers, Glen Davis, Ekpe Udoh and Hedo Turkoglu.

Restricted Free Agents: None.

Team or Player Options: Jamal Crawford's $5.7 million salary is only guaranteed for $1.5 million. Matt Barnes' $3.5 million salary is guaranteed for $1.0 million. Jordan Hamilton and Lester Hudson both have fully non-guaranteed $1.0 million salaries for 2015-16.

L.A. Lakers

Unrestricted Free Agents: Jeremy Lin didn't rule out a return with the Lakers, though he admitted he felt "burnt out" after the season. "I gave great effort to play well, play the right way, and maintain the right perspective despite seeing very little fruit," he said. Other unrestricted FAs include Carlos Boozer, Wayne Ellington, Ronnie Price and Wesley Johnson. The Lakers are reportedly concerned about Johnson's inconsistency over the past few seasons, while the Clippers have expressed interest in signing him.

Restricted Free Agents: Vander Blue ($1.1 million qualifying offer).

Team or Player Options: Jordan Hill has a $9.0 million team option and the Lakers reportedly aren't sure if they'll pick it up. Either way, Hill said he hopes to remain in L.A. Ed Davis has a $1.1 million player option. Tarik Black, Robert Sacre and Jabari Brown all have fully non-guaranteed salaries for 2015-16. Jordan Clarkson does as well but there's no doubt L.A. will keep him around. Byron Scott called him a "diamond in the rough" and he's a candidate to start next season.

Memphis Grizzlies

Unrestricted Free Agents: Marc Gasol reportedly "hasn't considered" leaving the Grizzlies this summer. "Everyone knows the relationship of Memphis as a family ... It is special and has set us apart." Grizzlies' GM Chris Wallace also said he "firmly" believes Gasol will return to Memphis, but he's going to be a hot property around the league. Kosta Koufos is also unrestricted and he reportedly hopes to sign with a team for whom he can start at center. The Magic, Celtics and Kings have been rumored to have interest.

Restricted Free Agents: Nick Calathes ($1.1 million QO). He denied reports that he's looking to return to Europe next season, saying, "The NBA is my priority."

Team or Player Options: Jeff Green is expected to pick up his $9.2 million player option, to nobody’s surprise. Beno Udrih's $2.2 million salary is guaranteed for $923k. Jon Leuer ($1.0 million), Russ Smith ($845k) and JaMychal Green ($845k) all have non-guaranteed salaries for 2015-16.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Unrestricted Free Agents: Kevin Garnett has already informed Flip Saunders that he plans to play next season. He's likely to assume a role with the team once he retires, likely in the front office, and it wouldn't be surprising if he accepts a salary near the veteran minimum. Gary Neal is also unrestricted.

Restricted Free Agents: Justin Hamilton, Robbie Hummel and Arinze Onuaku can all become restricted if Minnesota extends $1.1 million qualifying offers.

Team or Player Options: Lorenzo Brown's $947k salary is non-guaranteed.

New Orleans Pelicans

Unrestricted Free Agents: Monty Williams said that Omer Asik was a priority for the Pelicans but it remains to be seen if coach Alvin Gentry feels the same. Asik has yet to say much about his plans in free agency but he sounds optimistic about the Pelicans, saying, "It's a young team and the future is good." Alexis Ajinca, Luke Babbitt, Dante Cunningham and Jimmer Fredette are also unrestricted.

Restricted Free Agents: Norris Cole ($3.0 million QO) and Jeff Withey ($1.1 million QO).

Team or Player Options: Eric Gordon has a $15.5 million player option. Toney Douglas' $1.2 million salary is non-guaranteed for 2015-16.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Unrestricted Free Agents: None

Restricted Free Agents: Enes Kanter has a $7.5 million qualifying offer and GM Sam Presti will prioritize re-signing him. "Enes is someone we are committed to seeing in a Thunder uniform moving forward," Presti said. Kyle Singler ($2.7 million) may land in another city depending upon how much money he's offered, as the Thunder are constricted by salary cap and luxury tax complications.

Team or Player Options: None

Phoenix Suns

Unrestricted Free Agents: Brandan Wright, Gerald Green, Marcus Thornton and Earl Barron. Green sounded optimistic about re-signing with Phoenix, saying, "I do want to come back. I think they do want me back, too."

Restricted Free Agents: Brandon Knight has a $4.8 million QO. He said he's "optimistic" about returning with Phoenix next year, and suggested that playing in a backcourt with Eric Bledsoe is "a great thing because you have two players who can attack at any time."

Team or Player Options: Danny Granger isn't sure whether he'll pick up his $2.2 million player option.

Portland Trail Blazers

Unrestricted Free Agents: LaMarcus Aldridge stands out as one of the summer's premier unrestricted free agents. The Blazers can offer him more money and an extra year but he may have interest in returning to Texas with either the Mavericks or Spurs. The Celtics are also reportedly "putting together some type of package deal" to pry Aldridge away from the Western Conference.

Wesley Matthews' Achilles surgery ended his season on an awful note but he's still likely to draw interest from plenty of teams. "We know [Matthews'] value to us," said Portland GM Neil Olshey. "We also know he's going to have market value around the league." Matthews himself described re-signing with the Blazers as his "perfect situation."

Robin Lopez has said repeatedly that he'd like to re-sign with the Blazers. Dorell Wright and Alonzo Gee are also unrestricted.

Restricted Free Agents: Joel Freeland ($3.8 million QO).

Team or Player Options: Steve Blake has a $2.2 million player option. Chris Kaman's $5.0 million salary is guaranteed for $1.0 million, while both Allen Crabbe ($947k) and Tim Frazier ($845k) are non-guaranteed.

Sacramento Kings

Unrestricted Free Agents: Andre Miller, Omri Casspi, Reggie Evans and Ryan Hollins.

Restricted Free Agents: Derrick Williams' qualifying offer has been trimmed from $8.3 million to $4.0 million because he didn't meet the "starter criteria" by starting 41 games or playing at least 2,000 minutes. It's still very doubtful that Sacramento will pony up that much cash to make him restricted.

Team or Player Options: Ray McCallum ($947k), Eric Moreland ($845k) and David Stockton ($845k) all have non-guaranteed deals for 2015-16.

San Antonio Spurs

Unrestricted Free Agents: Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili are both contemplating retirement. So is Gregg Popovich, for that matter, and he dismissed any speculation about his future as "psychobabble." That said, it's very likely that all three Spurs stalwarts will return in 2015-16. Other unrestricted FAs include Danny Green (“Hopefully, I’ll be back. I love San Antonio), Marco Belinelli, Jeff Ayres and Matt Bonner.

Restricted Free Agents: Kawhi Leonard ($4.4 million QO) will draw a ton of interest but the Spurs will assuredly match all offers. Cory Joseph ($3.0 million QO) and Aron Baynes ($2.6) may also hit the market as restricted FAs.

Team or Player Options: Reggie Williams' $1.2 million salary is non-guaranteed for 2015-16.

Utah Jazz

Unrestricted Free Agents: Jeremy Evans.

Restricted Free Agents: Joe Ingles ($1.0 million QO).

Team or Player Options: Trevor Booker's $4.8 million salary is guaranteed for approximately $250k. Elijah Millsap ($845k), Jack Cooley ($845k), Bryce Cotton ($845k) and Christapher Johnson ($981k) all have non-guaranteed deals for 2015-16.
