Former Nebraska corner Dennard arrested for assault

Former Nebraska cornerback Alonzo Dennard was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer early Saturday morning.

The alleged incident occurred outside a bar in Lincoln, Neb. The Omaha World-Herald reported that Dennard, 22, was fighting with another man at about 2:15 a.m.

When police tried to break up the fight, Dennard punched an officer in the face, according to the newspaper. It took four officers to take down Dennard.

He was arrested for suspicion of third-degree assault on an officer and resisting arrest. He was also cited for third-degree assault in connection with the bar fight.

Dennard is expected to remain in jail the rest of the weekend.

NFL.com projects Dennard to be a second- or third-round draft pick, but the arrest could significantly hurt his stock.

The All-Big Ten cornerback was ejected from the Capital One Bowl in January for fighting with South Carolina wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey.
