Football player collapses while playing basketball, later dies

Xavier Walton, an Anderson University sophomore defensive lineman, collapsed Thursday night during an intramural basketball game on campus and later died at a local Anderson, Ind., hospital.

Walton was remembered Friday as a "very gifted student with wide interests," according to a statement released by the school.

Campus security and local paramedics arrived at the Kardatzke Wellness Center to provide assistance before Walton was taken to Community Hospital.

An autopsy was performed Friday but the official cause of death was not released.
