Dustin Poirier vs. Joseph Duffy Headlines UFC Return to Dublin

Dustin Poirier Stops Anthony Pettis, Calls for Eddie Alvarez vs. Justin Gaethje Winner

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is set to return to Dublin on Oct. 24, but it’s not going to be the enormous Conor McGregor homecoming event that many Irish fans had hoped.

Instead of McGregor finally squaring off with Jose Aldo in an Irish stadium, UFC Fight Night 77 will take place at The 3Arena with Joseph Duffy headlining opposite Dustin Poirier.

He hasn’t yet risen to the heights of countryman McGregor, but Duffy (14-1) is off to a good start in his UFC career, winning both of his fights in the Octagon. Perhaps more importantly for the casual fan, Duffy is one of only two men to hold a victory over McGregor.

That victory took place nearly five years ago, and McGregor hasn’t lost since, but should Duffy continue his rise up the ranks, there’s a possible rematch in their future.

But first, he’ll step into the Octagon opposite Poirier (18-4), who had long been one of the top fighters in the UFC featherweight division.

Following a loss to McGregor, Poirier moved back to lightweight. He has since won back-to-back bouts over Carlos Diego Ferreira and Yancy Medeiros, although Medeiros missed weight and it was technically classified as a catchweight bout.

UFC Fight Night 77 marks the promotion’s third trip to Dublin.
