Defensive lineman Vaughn Martin signed a two-year deal with the Miami Dolphins. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Martin said he spoke to the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers in free agency, and that he was heading to meet with the Seattle Seahawks when he "got off the plane to come over her back to Davie (Fla., Dolphins headquarters) and sign.

Martin was a fourth-round pick of the Chargers in 2009 and has three career sacks while starting 27 of 48 games over the past four seasons. He provides versatility as Martin can play defensive end or tackle.

"We are excited that Vaughn is a member of the Dolphins," said Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland. "He is an athletic player that we feel will make a positive impact and bring depth to the the defensive side of the ball."

Martin, 6-feet-4, 297 pounds played his college football at Western Onterio, where he contributed to the Mustangs winning Canada's national title.

"Everyone I spoke to spoke very highly of (defensive line) coach Kacy Rodgers," Martin said when asked what helped make his decision to sign with Miami. "I had an opportunity to meet him four years ago and that was awesome. It really is just the commitment. The sense of commitment just to winning and moving forward and just doing it.

"You can't help but be humbled and flattered when someone identifies you as the piece of that puzzle moving forward, you know, to achieve that goal. So that's what it is. I want to be a part of it. I want to be here in South Florida. I want to help this team win."
