Dodgers place Billingsley, Lilly on DL

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed pitchers Chad Billingsley and Ted Lilly on the 15-day disabled list to start the season.

The moves are retroactive to March 22. CBS Sports noted Monday that this temporarily solves the Dodgers' logjam in their rotation.

For now, the Dodgers will go with a four-man rotation that includes Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Josh Beckett and Hyun-Jin Ryu. Aaron Harang and Chris Capuano are on the 25-man roster but have not been named as starters. The Orange County Register reported that the Dodgers will still need a spot starter for Billingsley next weekend.

The Dodgers may look to place Harang or Capuano in the bullpen, trade one of them or designate one of them for assignment while Billingsley and Lilly are on the DL.
