Dave Herman Returns to Face Shane Del Rosario at UFC 162

Dave Herman and Shane Del Rosario will square off at UFC 162 on July 6 in Las Vegas.

UFC officials on Thursday announced the new heavyweight bout.

Herman (21-5) has his back against the wall. Not only did he just recently get cleared to fight following a stint in rehab after he tested positive for marijuana metabolites in relation to his last fight, but Herman is on a three-fight skid.

He has lost consecutive bouts to Stefan Struve, Roy Nelson and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. The UFC’s roster is currently on overflow, so there’s not a lot of slack for a fighter on a losing streak. Adding a fourth loss would almost assuredly spell disaster for Herman.

Del Rosario (11-2) isn’t in much of a better position than Herman. Although he entered the Octagon undefeated in his first 11 fights, the Strikeforce transfer has yet to score a victory under the UFC banner.

Del Rosario was knocked out by both Stipe Miocic and Pat Barry in the Octagon.

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva puts his belt on the line against No. 1 contender Chris Weidman in the UFC 162 main event.
