Dana White on Fox Sports 1 Event: “It's Going to be the Best Television Card We've Ever Done”

UFC president Dana White met with Fox executives on Tuesday to, in part, to discuss the launch of Fox Sports 1 on Aug. 17, and the live event the UFC has planned for the network’s debut.

“I can tell you this, we’re going to put a ridiculous card together for that fight,” said White during a question and answer session at Herald Square in New York on Wednesday.

“I haven’t even made the card yet. A couple of fights still need to happen and build the card, but I’m telling you it’s going to be the best television card we’ve ever done,” said White during Thursday’s media day at Madison Square Garden.

The success of the Fox deal is important to White, from a business and personal standpoint.

“It means a lot to me. When you think about the fact that we couldn’t get, we couldn’t get on pay-per-view 11 or 12 years ago. And now Fox is looking at us as a key piece of this puzzle to build their sports network. It means a lot. I’m going to work hard and do everything that I can to make it work,” said the UFC president.

White promises a big fight, much like the heavyweight title bout between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos that kicked off the UFC’s relationship with Fox networks on Nov. 12, 2011.

“It’s the launch of this new sports network with those guys. We’re going to make it so that people are going, ‘I have to find this Fox Sports 1 channel. I’ve got to watch it tonight.' We’re going to put a serious fight on,” he said.

“We’re going to take a big hit on the chin on the pay-per-view because we’re going to put a pay-per-view fight on Fox Sports 1. It will be a big fight.”
